The problem with our society.

So I’ve been seeing all these trending topics on Twitter. One that caught my attention was #PrayForGemma. I looked more into it and turns out this Gemma girl is the cousin of a certain celebrity who was rushed to hospital. While I wish her a speedy recovery, I don’t like how this has come to be.

Would you simply “PrayForGemma” because she’s the cousin of a famous person that you like? Would you even know about it if she wasn’t? Would you even care if you didn’t know her personally? That’s what irks me about these people. They claim to be doing a good thing by saying they’ll “PrayForGemma” but the fact is, if not for her cousin, they wouldn’t even give a damn.

Where are all the “PrayFor” for the kids starving in Africa? What about all those people that are being abused? What about rape victims or people with serious illnesses? While I’m not hating on this girl (I wish her well), I don’t like how these people simply “Pray” for her because she’s the cousin of a famous person. Your intentions may be good but in the end, you’re just being a huge fake. Sure, you may genuinely care for this person but the majority are just doing it for that famous person.

That’s a problem in our society.
